Description
It is 1878 and a mighty Australian cricket team approaches Canterbury. The match was played at Hagley Park, Christchurch 19,23,24 January 1878, between Australia and the Canterbury team. Spearheaded by the legendary Fred Spofforth, this is very much the team that will one day humble England at the Oval. Brian Priestley has recreated a game from the early days of overarm bowling but he is also interested in the players, the society in which they lived and the way they played cricket then.
